Animal Care Weekend seminar
November 1-3 on Isla Ometepe @ Selvista
in collaboration with Sustainable Vets International
Who’s this course for?
If you’re an English-speaking animal lover living in Nicaragua who wants to know how to best care for your animals in the tropics, then this course is for you!
We focus specifically on dogs, cats and horses in this weekend’s course, but are happy to answer questions you have about any animals you may be interested in.
Who runs the course?
Selvista Guesthouses is hosting the seminar, with featured speakers Dr Shelley Lenz (founder and president of Sustainable Vets International), local practicioners Dr Faran Dometz and Dr Davina Flores (the friendly vets from Ometepe Vet Clinic) and European-trained ferrier, Carlos Carbarra, for practical demonstrations.
Dr. Shelley earned her Ph.D. in pharmacology from University of Pennsylvania in 1996. She earned her DVM degree from Ohio State University in 2001. She worked as an equine vet at the prestigious Hagyard-Davidson-McGee in Lexington, KY until 2004. Realizing her vocation in life is to bring quality and accesible veterinary care to rural areas, she moved to the Great Plains of North Dakota and also began to work internationally serving the underserved. While serving in the international animal welfare community, she realized a large gap in the long-view for sustainability for animal welfare as well as the interconnectedness between animal welfare, human health and productive agriculture. Based on this need, she founded SVI in 2014.
